Fira is the largest settlement and capital of Santorini. To the west side,  there is Gialos, or “the old port”. Here the cruisers make ports and the cable car takes visitors to Fira. Firostefani is, almost, connected to Fira.

During winter and summertime, Fira is the center of social and night life. You will find; hotels, restaurants, shops, jewelry shops, art galleries, gift shops, super markets, banks, ATMs, pharmacies, bars, travel agencies and lots more. In Fira, you will find  the most important museums of the island such as; the museum of Prehistoric Thera , the Archeological museum,  Megaro Gyzi, the Santozeum that houses the murals of Akrotiri, Lignos’s Folklore museum and Belonio Cultural Center.

The center of Caldera is practically the zone around the Cathedral. Outside Caldera, you will find Theotokopoulos square, where a lot of banks and shops are located. Bus and taxi starting points are also near by, while March 25th st.  leads you to Firostefani, Imerovigli, Oia. On the opposite side, the main road takes you to Pyrgos, Athinios, Megalohori, Akrotiri, the Akrotiri archaeological site and Emporio, but also to the beaches of the south/south-east part of Santorini.
