The Ravishing Oia

Oia, Santorini

Located on the north side of the island, just 11 km away from Fira, Oia is an amazing place offering the most thrilling scenery with caves in a rocky breathtaking background just above the sea.

Built in the northern side of the island, Oia is an impressive settlement with a magnificent sunset.

In the recent years traditional buildings have become hotels, cafes, restaurants and shops. Oia, called in the past Epano Meria, is mostly known as the place- to be for the most idyllic sunset.

Walk around the narrow streets and enjoy the Greek hospitality that offers clear blue waters, volcanic beaches and picturesque settlements with artistic touches and delicious local cuisine.

The settlement is very famous, therefore, from dawn till dusk it is filled with visitors.

Oia at night, is a peaceful place where you can enjoy your walks in the center following the marble laid roads, around the impressively lit picturesque buildings. During the sunset, a lot of people sit on roofs and balconies, admiring silently one of the most rare spectacles on earth.

Don’t miss the chance to discover the Art Galleries of Oia! Santorini is an island with artistic scent and Oia attracts artists from all over the world.

Captains’ houses, carved-in buildings

The characteristic of the settlement is the carved-in buildings, also called captains’ houses (“kapetanospita” in Greek) with neoclassic elements. In 1993, Oia was characterized as a traditional settlement by presidential decree, and the entire island of Santorini as an area of “exceptional natural beauty”.
